The Joint Center of Excellence in Integrated Nanosystems (JCIN) between King Abdulaziz City of Science and Technology (KACST) and Northwestern University (NU) represents a world-class research center that encourages and promotes research in nanotechnology. The research team at Northwestern University is led by Sir Fraser Stoddart, a winner of the 2007 King Faisal Prize for Science, 2016 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry, and pioneer in the field of functionalized and mechanized nanomaterials.
The research conducted at JCIN focuses on different areas of nanotechnology under six key domains:Energy Storage,Energy Harvesting,Molecular Electronics,Porous Materials,Membrane Technology and Drug Delivery.
The storage of cost-effective electrical energy is hindered by the nature of the battery. Among existing technology
Fossil-based energy sources, such as coal, oil, and natural gas have powered most of the advanced world
Increased demands on the world’s water and energy resources, which cannot be met through exploitation of conventional method

A group of researchers from KACST joined JCIN@NU from September–December 2016 as visiting scholars.
10 December 2016
The center’s co-director, Professor Sir James Fraser Stoddart, was also awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2016
2007
